NEW GROGG
OF THE MONTH
Welcome to our Homepage
As you can imagine
things have been quite hectic here preparing our new
figures in time for christmas and there have been two big
events in our calender were the Ex-players Association
dinner and the presentation to John of the Chancellors
medal by the University of Glamorgan.
The
Ex-players dinner took place at the
Marriott Hotel o n
September 20th. and celebrated the 25th.
anniversary of the 1976 Grand Slam. We were
delighted to be involved, donating number 25 of
the Limited Edition Gareth Edwards 'Hand-off'
figures for auction and presenting each player
from that legendary side with a figure of
themselves complete with a special commemorative
Grand Slam inscription. It was a great evening
and it was lovely to meet up with our heroes once
again.It
certainly doesn't seem like 25 years since we
were basking in the 'Glory years'
of Welsh rugby.

On the 19th.
July, 'Our Leader', John Hughes, was
presented with the Chancellors Medal by
the University of Glamorgan, "in
recognition of his distinctive
contribution to the promotion of welsh
culture". John was honoured in the
same week as Tanni Gray Thompson, Phillip
Madoc and Sir Patrick Moore. We would
like to thank again the Chancellor, Rt.
Hon. Lord Merlyn Rees and the Pro-Chancellor,
Mr. R.P.V. Rees OBEfor a great day aand
their wonderful hospitality. At the
moment there are no plans to make a Grogg
of Johnin his robes!
Talking of
Groggs, there are many new figures and
some old figure making a return to our
range. Due to popular demand some of the
older 9" clay figures have been re-modelled
and put back on the shelves. The first of
these are:
Steve Fenwick, Robert Jones, Phillipe
Sella, Gavin Hastings and last but not
least, Englands record cap holder, Jason
Leonard.

New Limited
Edition 9" figures of Dafydd
James and Keith Wood are now
available to order, both limited
to 300 pieces. The Keith Wood was
started the week prior to his
amazing 'Man of the Match'
performance in the Irish win over
England and will be available in
Irish and Lion's strip priced at£49.95
and £59.95 respectively.
Three new Mini's have been added
to our ever growing 6"
collection: England's goal
kicking ace, Jonny Wilkinson, the
'Lion King' himself, Martin
Johnson and Wales' daredevil full-back,
Kevin Morgan, all available at £24.95
each.
Some more great memorabilia has
come our way. Neil has kindly
donated his Lion's No.10 shirt
from the recent Australia tour, a
unique double for us as we are
now the proud owners of two of
his Lion's shirts! Garin has
presented us with his League
Champions 2001 Swansea shirt and
Lee Jarvis has filled the only
gap in our collection with a
Japanese shirt from the Welsh
summer tour. |

A new Limited
Edition Collier has been finished
just in time for Christmas.
Standing approximately 15"
tall it depicts in great detail
John Hughes' paternal
grandfather, Richard, who was a
repairer in the Albion colliery,
Cilfynydd, in the 1890's. This
evocative piece is limited to
just 100 figures of which 27 are
already sold.Collectors will be
pleased to hear that a special 30th.
anniversay collectors guide to
the World of Groggs is currently
being compiled and should be
available before Christmas, a
great stocking filler for any
Groggs fan. Although difficult to
compress the shops history into a
book format, the intention is to
chart the story of the Groggs
from their beginnings in the coal
shed at 26 Llantwit Road, to
their now well established home
at the Groggshop in Pontypridd.Robin McBride
recently visited us at the
Groggshop following the Lion's
tour of Australia to recieve his
mini groggs in both Wales and
Llanelli strip. We are pleased to
say that he was delighted with
them.
