The
week prior to the Wales Vs. Azerbaijan game saw a
soccer giant pay us a visit at the Groggshop.
John Hartson, Wales and Celtic goal-scoring ace,
collected his special first edition Grogg and was
so impressed with the result he kindly donated a
signed Celtic jersey to our museum. John went on
to score a fantastic goal in Wales' 4-o rout over
Azerbaijan, which not only has the whole of Wales
in a frenzy but puts them in pole position in
their group for the European finals. Thanks again
for the shirt John, and good luck Wales! John's
Grogg will be available to order in Welsh strip
as a Limited Edition of 300.
This figure will soon be available on the Limited Editions page and Football Superstars page. |

| On
the Rugby Club Scene There's good news
and bad news. The Ponty RFC Principality Cup,
Double figure has now reached it's limit of 125
pieces and is therefore no longer available. The
chief himself did us the honour of destroying the
mold on a recent visit. Thanks again Dale! The
good news is that Ponty's veteran prop, Sven
Cronk was delighted to complete the Ponty Cup
Winners Team 2002, the first full set of which
was collected by Mr Ross maisey of Llantwit
Fardre. Well done Ross! We have also finally
finished the the Craig Morgan figure, much to his
delight. "This is a great honour for me
as everyone who has been grogged says it is
something special to keep for the years ahead and
I can always remind one or two of my team mates
that I've been done before them!. Jamie
Robinson was next in line but has generously made
way for a special request. Andrew Lewis of
Cardiff and Wales is celebrating his testimonial
season which begins in April and we pulled out
all the stops and managed to finish his 6"
figure just in time. Good luck for the season
2003 - 2004 and well done Andrew. His testimonial
Grogg is available in Cardiff or Wales strip
priced at £24.95 and as with all our testimonial
Groggs will only be available during the players
testimonial year, after which the mould is
destroyed. Gareth Llewelyn is now well into his
Testimonial season and on a recent visit to
collect a special presentation 5 piece Grogg,
depicting all his strips, he surprised us with a
great piece of memorabilia for our museum, his
Harlequins jersey! Thanks again Gareth! |

more broad-minded in our choice of sports, we
have recently re-introduced, due to popular
demand, our 9" George Best and Welsh legend,
Ian Rush, both priced at £59.95. We also have a
new standard golfing figure, priced at £59.95
and available in colours with inscriptions of
your own choice. More importantly, we recently
completed a 9" Limited Edition (250 pieces)
of our local golfing hero, Phillip Price. Phil
had a fantastic year, culminating in his heroic
Ryder Cup winning round in September 2002. This
is only the second golfer we have ever made as a
production piece, the other being the very rare
Ian Woosnam figure. Only 17 Woosnam's were ever
made and we were very kindly loaned one of these
figure by Mr. Joe O'Neil of Neath. Don't worry
Joe, we won't sell it!

Away
from sport from a moment, we have also
reintroduced one of two in our series of 16"
Ltd Edition colliers. Those of you who have read
Feat of Clay might be interested to know that the
figure of John's grandfather in the chapter
"Daid" was obviously not the
grandfather he remembers."He was also
injured in an explosion, losing the sight of both
eyes. One of my abiding childhood memories was
standing with my brother every Sunday for Daid to
feel our faces and measure how much we had grown
in a week. He was a lovely old man with a thick
white moustache, stained yellow by his beloved
clay pipe and constant cups of tea" We
recently remodelled the figure of him, which
hasn't been made since the early 1990's. A
limited edition of only 100, it is priced at
£175. We also had time before christmas to
fulfil a special request and make our co-author
Alan Evans, complete with a copy of Feat of Clay
under his arm. This has also delighted Alan's
wife who now has company while he is away on his
many rugby trips! We hope to have time this year
to make one or two more portraits. However, as
these figures are unique and very time consuming,
they are consequently relatively expensive (from
approx. £1000), so if you have one please look
after it.
On our list of
"Coming Soon" figures, we are currently
remodelling two figures of "Cops and
Robbers", Clint Eastwood complete with
Magnum .44 and James Cagney. Hollywood icon,
Humphrey Bogart is set to follow in the summer.
Grogg history
was made in May this year when we produced the
first ever Cardiff City player Grogg in the form
of Scott Young. Scott is celebrating his
testimonial next season at only 27, a remarkable
achievement. Scott was presented with his figure
at the Groggshop the week prior to Cardiff's
amazing promotion play-off win at the Millennium
Stadium and was delighted with the result! He
said, "It's brilliant. I'm honoured that
it's the first Cardiff City grogg to go on
sale" This special testimonial figure is
£59.95 and available from the Groggshop or
Scott's testimonial committee on 01443 684174. As
with all testimonial figures, at the end of
Scott's special season the mould will be
destroyed. So make sure not to miss out on this
unique piece of Groggshop and football
memorabilia.

| Another Scott now available in our
"Rugby's Greatest Moments" is number 3
entitled "The Perfect Day"
Immortalised in clay for all time, the moment
Scott Gibbs broke Neil Back's tackle and scored
the unforgettable try, which denied England the
last Grandslam of the 20th century! This again is
limited to just 500 pieces and priced at
£120.00, so to avoid disappointment, please
order as early as possible if you are interested.
 We had an interesting
visit in December from two of Rugby's media
stalwarts, David Parry Jones and Onllwyn Brace.
They are making a series of filmed interviews for
the National Screen and Sound Archive in
Aberystwyth. The aim of the project is to
"capture in conversation on video tape the
character and personality of distinguished Welsh
persons whose life and experiences hold lessons
for the Welsh nation at large". They kindly
included us, so now we've been preserved on film
for posterity!.
Finally we would
like to explain to our collectors why they may be
experiencing difficulty buying Groggs from our
former outlets. We have decided to stop
wholesaling as it was putting pressure on us to
expand production rather than expand our range.
To compensate we have developed an efficient
next-day delivery service and don't forget there
is our online shopping facility which is
currently being updated to include all of the
figures mentioned above and others that aren't
currently available on the site. As a small
studio workshop, we have no intention of being
forced to look abroad for increased capacity, as
this contradicts our two most basic edicts,
'quality not quantity' and MADE IN WALES! We hope
you understand when ordering directly from us at
the home of Groggs in Pontypridd.
