'Merv the Swerve' was one of the greatest forwards/captains Wales has ever produced. His career was tragically cut short in 1976 but he had already played a part in two Lions series victories (NZ and SA) and two Welsh Grand Slams in 1971 and 1976, the second as captain. The fore runner of the modern No.8's, his basket ball handling skills and distictive hair style were his trademark.
