On the 31st of October 1972 Llanelli did the unthinkable by defeating Ian Kirkpatrick’s All Blacks, 9-3, in a game which has gone down in history as one of the greatest upsets in rugby union history. This incredible achievement was masterminded by the coaching genius Carwyn James, who had led the British and Irish Lions to their only series win in New Zealand the previous year.

The names of those Llanelli players were to become part of Welsh rugby folklore and were immortalised by Max Boyce in his song “I was there”. Among those heroes who went on to become household names was the legendary Ray Gravell. Ray was to have to wait another three years to represent his country, but he had already cemented his position in Llanelli’s history.

“Grav” would go on to represent his club on 485 occasions scoring 119 tries and captaining the Llanelli from 1980 to 1982.

This new Limited Edition Llanelli Ray Gravell depicts him wearing the number 12 shirt he wore for Llanelli on that momentous day standing on the Stradey turf with the silver fern of New Zealand at his feet.

You can also arrange delivery for a more convenient day or deliver to a neighbour via their website.
