Born in Trimsaran in 1962, Jonathan “Jiffy” Davies became one of Wales’s Greatest Rugby Union players. Following in the footsteps of Welsh legends Barry John and Phil Bennett, Jiffy’s audacious talent saw him ripping defences apart for club and country with apparent ease. The Welsh public recognised him as the natural successor to those former greats and the next in line from the ‘Outside Half Factory’ which for decades had produced fly halves touched with genius.

After his hugely successful move to rugby league Jonathan became a broadcaster, commentating on both rugby codes endearing himself even more to rugby fans across the globe with his insightful and witty punditry.

He was recently awarded the CBE for his tireless work for Cancer charities in particular Velindre, which has raised over £50 million since Jiffy became President in 2009.

This is our tribute to Jonathan…a great rugby player, broadcaster and philanthropist…… in all a truly remarkable human being.

WALES

In 1985 Jonathan made his international debut for Wales against England in Cardiff. Unfazed by the pressure Jiffy scored a match winning try and drop goal for his country earning him the Man of the Match award.

In 1987 Jonathan travelled with Wales to New Zealand for the first Rugby World Cup where Wales finished third beating Australia 21-22 in the playoff match in Rotorua.

In 1988 he steered Wales to an impressive Triple Crown and in the dramatic win over Scotland he scored an unforgettable individual try. Jonathan played 32 times for his country captaining them on four occasions.
