It’s not only ourselves at the Groggshop celebrating a major anniversary this year. Ours is our 60th but in 2005 Wales finally broke their Grand Slam Hoodoo and after a 27 year wait once again became Six Nations Grand Slam Champions. That squad of players played superb rugby throughout the whole competition in a swashbuckling style that blew their opposition away. The win against Ireland, in Cardiff, which sealed the deal has particular resonance for me as it was the last game I went to with my father. I can remember when Kevin Morgan crossed for Wales’s second try I squeezed my Dad so hard he begged me to put him down!
Although the rugby Wales played that year was free flowing to me it was all about the solid foundation laid down by the magnificent forwards and no one summed that up more than Adam Jones. He was Wales’s cornerstone and I have chosen Adam to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that unforgettable year.
