Ray Gravell “Cap Cyntaf” Limited Edition
So, we’re back in that tunnel once again….. Parc des Princes January 18th 1975. Standing behind his new captain with the five other new caps that day is the firebrand and ferocious Welshman Ray Gravell. The French had no idea what was about to be unleashed on them! Ray Gravell was no rookie when it came to rugby having already collected the scalp of New Zealand while playing for his beloved Scarlets in 1972, but the super patriot, although playing number 12 on that day, was about to make the number 13 shirt his own, playing his part in the total destruction of that French team in Paris.
Ray went on to represent Llanelli 485 times scoring 119 tries. He played for his country 23 times winning two Grand Slams and also toured with the British & Irish Lions in South Africa in 1980 playing in all four test matches. An extraordinary career in rugby union was followed by a celebrated career in broadcasting which made him a household name in Wales.

To say Ray was loved, not only in rugby circles, but by everyone he met would be an understatement…. his personality and enthusiasm was infectious. I’ve always loved making ‘Grav’. To me he was a cross between a Celtic Warrior and an Old Testament prophet, with his flame hair and fiery beard. I was lucky enough to meet him on many occasions and could listen to his stories all day.
This new Limited Edition figure of Ray is my tribute to him as well as a celebration of that day in Paris where it all began for the Bard of Mynydd-Y-Garreg.
Diolch yn fawr Ray.
